Russia has concentrated at least 15 Su-57 fighter jets at the Dzyomgi air base, in the Khabarovsk region in the country’s Far East, about 280 kilometers from the border with China.

Satellite images dated February 9, released by the AviVector project, show the aircraft parked in the open. At the same location, 18 Su-35S fighter jets, three MiG-31BM interceptors, and two Mi-8 helicopters can also be seen.
The total number of Su-57 currently in operation is still considered limited. There is photographic confirmation of at least 16 units, in addition to aircraft recently delivered to Russia’s Aerospace Forces. Including prototypes and early production models, the fleet is estimated at between 20 and 25 aircraft, which suggests that a significant portion of the available fighters is concentrated at a single base.
The choice of Dzyomgi is not accidental. The base is located near the Gagarin Aircraft Factory in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, responsible for assembling the Su-57 and part of the United Aircraft Corporation. Some of the aircraft may still be undergoing operational testing and capability improvements, requiring direct technical support from the industrial complex.
Another factor cited is the protection of strategic assets. By positioning the fighters in the Far East, Moscow keeps them farther from the combat zone in Ukraine and under the coverage of regional air defense systems. The move comes after Ukrainian drone attacks struck at least two Su-57 at the Akhtubinsk base in June 2024, when the parking area was targeted in an offensive that reportedly caused significant damage.
